100 Years of Le Saussois - Diving into the craddle of free climbing. Impossible to launch into an article on Saussois without raising a whole section of the history of our activity. It is here, in fact, that the transition from artifficial climbing to free was made in France at the end of the 1970s. But reducing the site to this transformation alone would be extremely simplistic. Firstly because its history is immensely richer than that, and secondly because imprisoning the Saussois in the past is a fatal error. At a time when adventure close to home is returning to popularity, the spot undeniably has a bright future ahead of it for Ile-de-France climbers. After having sketched the portrait of the star of the Burgundian cliffs, we will immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere which reigned there in the bygone days of the golden age of Saussois.
